Learning Centers Play is an activity-oriented medium and the main ingredient of learning in our program. Because we know that children learn best through activity, we build on what children are already engaging in on their own. The Learning Center curriculum is designed to enhance children’s natural curiosity and to help foster a life-long love of learning. t BLOCK CENTER: encourages cooperation, problem solving, math and science skills, and language skills. t GROUP AREA: children hear stories, sing songs, play instruments and games, and talk about events important to them. t DRAMATIC PLAY: promotes creativity and is an outlet for fantasy, role play, and social interaction. t MANIPULATIVE CENTER: offers individual skill building and fine motor development with games, puzzles, and small manipulative toys. t ART CENTER: provides a variety of materials for creative self-expression and the development of fine motor skills. t WRITING CENTER: offers writing materials for self-expression at the child’s particular stage of development. t BOOK CENTER: a cozy place for a child to curl up quietly with a good book.
